During your first visit, you will be asked to fill out a health history form if you did not do so online already. Your massage therapist will ask some general and specific questions to establish what areas need attention and to customize your service. Body assessments or testing may be performed clothed in order to check your current condition. The therapist will explain how to get ready and how to lay on the massage table. Following these instructions, your massage therapist will leave the room while you ready for the treatment.
It is important to list all health concerns and medications so that the therapist has all the pertinent information available to adjust treatment if necessary. Please note it is also important to list or tell your massage therapist any allergies so that we may adjust lotions if necessary.
You should only undress to your level of comfort. Some clients prefer to leave certain clothing on, while others not. Our massage therapists will work around any clothing left on and proper draping is always practiced. If removing your clothes causes nervousness, anxiety, or uncomfortable feelings, you will not receive the optimal benefits of massage. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table.
The answer is yes. This is known as draping and it is the law in Georgia. Once you are on the table under the drape, your massage therapist will uncover the part of the body being worked on. The genitals (both men and women) and breasts (women) will not be uncovered at anytime during your session. If your massage therapist is going to work on a woman’s abdomen, a second towel or sheet will be used to cover the breasts so the main sheet or towel can be moved to expose the abdomen.
That all depends on the type of massage you receive. Swedish is generally light and relaxing, while deep tissue probes into deeper layers of muscles. There is an “ouch, stop it” hurt and there is a “feel good” hurt. Even when receiving a deep tissue massage, the massage therapist should stay with the “feels good” hurt. If at any time during a massage you feel the therapist is in too deep or you are experiencing the “ouch, stop it” hurt, please speak up immediately and pressure will be adjusted or stopped. We want you to have the most beneficial session and tightening up due to too much pressure is counterproductive.
Our facility is not set up for couples massage. When possible, we are happy to try and accommodate two appointments at the same time in different therapy rooms.
If you would like to talk, feel free. If you prefer to be quiet, please let us know. It is important to remember that this is your time and we want to make this the best experience for you. In some cases, you may prefer to talk in the beginning and then slowly enter a quiet state. Certain techniques require communication between the massage therapist and client, but those circumstances will be discussed prior to the session.
Most people feel very relaxed. Some have more of a sense of freedom and energy. Mostly, there is a sense of well-being. If you received a deep tissue/neuromuscular massage, you may be slightly sore the next day. It is important to increase your water intake by a bit in order to help keep the body hydrated and healthy. The water can also help with decreased soreness the next day.
Simply speak up. We are able to shift gears between modalities immediately. This session is for you and your health and well-being. We strive hard to make sure you, as a client, are comfortable, safe, and well. If something does not feel right or if you want to shift gears to a different modality, please speak up. The only modalities that cannot be accommodated immediately are the Bamboo Fusion or Hot Stone Therapy.
